Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems’ new Avon headquarters achieves LEED certification – Crain’s Cleveland Business

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC recently was awarded LEED Silver certification for its new North American headquarters building in Avon. The building, which officially opened in November 2021, received the LEED Silver v4 certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, a news release said. LEED Silver v4, a standard for sustainability in buildings, is “a newer and even more rigorous set of requirements than earlier versions of LEED Silver,” the release said.

The new facility in Avon has a more than 200,000-square-foot main building and a commercial vehicle garage on a 56-acre campus. The company put a focus on energy efficiency in the facility, using 100% LED lighting and systems that can adjust lighting based on occupancy or natural lighting in a room. Indoor air quality was another priority, with the company making use of technologies like high-efficiency filtration and carbon dioxide sensors. Recycling, electric vehicle charging and outdoor space were also considerations in the planning.

“We’re proud to achieve LEED Silver certification for our headquarters facility,” Maria Gutierrez, Bendix director of corporate responsibility and sustainability, said in the release. “This building is not only beautiful to look at and a wonderful, inviting place to work. It’s also a reflection of Bendix’s long-standing sustainability strategy, supporting our goal to be a partner with our planet by reducing energy consumption; diverting waste from landfill; and increasing our use of green, renewable energy.”

I wrote about the maker of commercial vehicle products’ commitment to sustainability earlier this year.
